CCSD School Nutrition Culinary Specialist Earns National Recognition

Jessica Emmett, right, Cherokee County School District’s School Nutrition culinary specialist, is congratulated as a General Mills’ Tray Blazer winner by Jenna Caperton of General Mills.  She received a personalized Wheaties cereal box featuring her image as part of the national recognition.

Cherokee County School District’s School Nutrition culinary specialist has earned national recognition for excellence in her role!

Jessica Emmett, whose many responsibilities include developing recipes for CCSD’s school menus and overseeing the district’s farm to school initiative, was named a Tray Blazer winner by General Mills.  The company featured Ms. Emmett in a profile story on its website and presented her with a personalized Wheaties cereal box featuring her image.

The recognition program has celebrated 31 “school nutrition professionals who are thinking big and taking action” in schools across the country, according to the company.

“Congratulations to Jessica on earning this honor for your dedication to improving our school meals!” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We already know she’s a champion, so it’s perfect that the honor includes her own Wheaties box.  Our school meals are healthier, fresher and more delicious and special thanks to Jessica’s commitment.  We appreciate you and all that you do!”

Ms. Emmett joined CCSD’s School Nutrition team in 2015 at the school level and advanced in 2020 to her current district leadership role.  The company cited her dedication to developing more recipe-based entrees, encouraging student feedback, introducing global flavors and adding more fresh, locally sourced ingredients to menus as “tray blazing” qualities.

“We’re making connections through food, and that’s what’s really important,” Ms. Emmett said in the profile.
