CCSD Students, Teachers Rank Nationally as Erg Rowing Competitors
Cherokee County School District students and teachers are nationally ranked in competitive Erg rowing!
CCSD middle schools last school year added Erg rowing to their PE classes thanks to a Concept2, Inc. Erg Ed grant awarded by the George Pocock Rowing Foundation through a competitive application process. Only two school districts nationwide were selected for the grant. The Allatoona Rowing Association partnered with CCSD on the initiative and established a CCSD Middle School Erg Sprint Team.
Prepared by the outstanding instruction of our talented and dedicated teachers, the team earned top awards and national rankings at the recently held Atlanta Erg Sprints indoor regatta rowing machine competition at Georgia Tech. The team’s teacher coaches also competed and earned top awards and national rankings in their age brackets as well. One teacher coach, Donna Ross of Mill Creek MS, is now ranked third nationally and was additionally awarded a national bronze medal. Thank you to our School Board for its support of our school PE programs and extra-curricular athletic opportunities!
