CCSD Students Win at State Literary Championships

Cherokee County School District high school students earned top honors at the statewide literary competition!

The Georgia High Schools Association event includes writing, public speaking, acting and singing competitions, with region winners advancing to the recently held state competition.  Congratulations to our students and their teachers!  Our School Board is laser focused on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!

In the 5A State competition, Sequoyah High School junior Adrian Perez Arciniegas won the state championship for Boys Solo!  Adrian earned first place at regions in the same competition as well as first place in Humorous Interpretation.  Sequoyah’s team, which won the region championship, is coached by teacher Josh Markham, the school’s choral program director.

In the 6A State competition, Etowah High School senior Avery Cheatham won the state championship for Argumentative Essay.  Avery earned first-place at regions in the same competition.  Etowah’s team is coached by teacher William J. Hall, the school’s choral program director.

Students advanced to state competition after top performances at the regional event.  In addition to the state winners noted above, congratulations to these first-place individual winners and Sequoyah High School’s region champion team!

CHEROKEE HS: senior Jeremy Hett, Comedic Interpretation.  Cherokee’s team is coached by teacher Dr. Jodi Burns, the school’s theatre program director.

SEQUOYAH HS: sophomore Matthew Agler, International Extemporaneous Speaking; junior Alfred Chen, Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking; senior Maddie DeLoach, Literary Analysis Essay; seniors Angelina Miller and Parker Ingram, Duo Interpretation; and team members: Braylee Bryant, Landon Davidson, Adley Geyerman, James Markham, Justin Moore, Sebastian Murillo, Derik Pedro-Espinoza, Olivia Smith, and Lana Ward.      

ETOWAH HS: senior Skylee Poirrier, Personal Essay; and senior Mihini Senanayake, Literary Analysis Essay.
