Meet the CCSD Teacher: Chrissy Haines of Sixes ES!

We’re proud of our CCSD family’s dedicated teachers … and every week, you’ll get to know one of them better through a Q&A posted here. #CCSDfam

Chrissy Haines
Sixes Elementary School
Second-grade teacher

What’s the most innovative idea that you’ve tried in your classroom?
I utilized the Microsoft Kids Program in my class.  My second-graders became Microsoft Kids Certified last year with the help of our instructional technology specialist.  This program cultivated our learning environment so that technology was integrated seamlessly.  Students used different Microsoft tools to research, solve problems, collaborate and create original works of learning
Who is the best teacher you ever had and what made him or her special?
Mr. Duda, my eighth-grade Spanish teacher.  He made learning fun and engaging.  He used a variety of teaching styles to reach all learners.  We learned about the Spanish cultures by not listening to lectures, but by using researching skills.  Groups learned about each category of Spanish culture and then collaborated together.
What can parents do to prepare their children for learning?
There are many ways they can prepare their children.  Some ways are reading with them daily, give them responsibility and accountability, teach them how to solve problems and encourage curiosity and exploration.
What are the obstacles to getting all kids to achieve?
The biggest obstacles are knowing what each child needs and trying to keep students engaged at all levels. Each student learns differently so ensuring that each child receives the best education that they can achieve is key and difficult.  Teaching with technology, using many levels of engagement, smaller group teaching, enriching or reteaching is needed daily.
