What’s the most innovative idea that you’ve tried in your classroom?
Definitely taking a step back and giving students more control of their learning. Implementing the jigsaw approach is my favorite cooperative learning technique. The students are so engaged, and they know how important their role is for their group. They take the assignment seriously and want to do their best.
Who is the best teacher you ever had and what made him or her special?
The best teacher I ever had was my fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Vaughn. She always made us feel important, and she made sure to check in with each of us to ensure we understood the curriculum. She was a great encourager/motivator, and I always felt successful in her class.
What can parents do to prepare their children for learning?
I feel that parents can instill the love of reading into their children by reading to them and with them. I also believe when parents engage in their child’s school/academics and have a supportive relationship with teachers, the child will understand the expectations and will have more achievements.
What are the obstacles to getting all kids to achieve?
Not all children learn the same, and it’s important that students are exposed to different learning styles so that they can find the way that best fits their needs. It is also so vital for children to feel loved, secure, and safe within their classroom for true learning to happen.
