Meet the New Principal: Erica Morrie of Indian Knoll ES!

Our Principals are dedicated leaders, and as we look forward to the first day of school on Aug. 1, we’re introducing you to our new Principals …

Indian Knoll Elementary School Principal Erica Morrie isn’t new to serving as a Principal but is leading a new school this year.

A 25-year educator, she most recently served as Principal at Mountain Road ES, where she led the school to achievements including the Georgia 2023 Literacy Leader Award!

Principal Morrie began her career as an educator in Cartersville and joined CCSD as a teacher at Woodstock Elementary School.  She was appointed in 2018 to serve as an assistant principal at Carmel ES and in 2021 to lead Mountain Road ES.  She and her husband, Ryan, have two children, one who attends CCSD schools and one who is a CCSD graduate.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I am most looking forward to building a positive school culture, empowering teachers, connecting with students, and creating a common mission of teaching and learning that ignites and fuels a passion for learning.  The collaboration between all stakeholders is at the foundation of building a thriving environment where we celebrate victories and put in the work to reach excellence together!

How will you elevate the excellence this school year?
This year, we are focused on elevating instructional excellence, amplifying student voices, and strengthening family-school partnerships.  I believe that when we work together — educators, parents, and community members — we create a school where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

How can parents be more involved with your school?
Parents serve a critical role in schools.  As school partners, parents can empower students to become confident, compassionate learners who thrive in Indian Knoll’s positive learning environment.  Parents can join Indian Knoll Elementary School’s amazing PTA, conference with teachers, attend school events, and volunteer throughout the school year.  I am excited to involve parents and the community to continue to build a great Firebird Family!
