Victoria Brown

Victoria Brown of Etowah High School

A 14-year educator, Ms. Brown serves as the graduation coach and head softball coach for Etowah High School, and is advancing to an assistant principal role there to fill the vacancy created by the retirement next month of Dr. Curt Ashley. A Sequoyah HS Class of 2007 alum and member of its 2007 State Championship softball team, Ms. Brown began her career as a math teacher and assistant softball coach at West Forsyth High School before joining CCSD one year later as a math teacher and head softball coach at Etowah HS. She taught all levels of math before taking on her graduation and student success coach role through which she worked closely with counselors and staff to help students achieve academic success and graduation.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
Growing up I had a lot of great teachers and coaches in my life who have made a direct and lasting impact on the type of person I am today. They taught me that I was more capable than I first believed and helped instill a sense of confidence that I could tackle any obstacle that came my way and even if I failed the first time if I learned and grew from the experience, it was not failure. These teachers and coaches inspired me to make a similar impact on those around me and help the next generation have the confidence to take on any obstacle or challenge that might come their way.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is being able to see former and current students realize that they can achieve more than they ever thought was possible. Seeing their smiles and excitement when they are able to push themselves outside of their comfort zone and achieve what they did not think was possible is something that makes this the best job in the world.

How do you elevate the excellence in your classroom?
In my role as a graduation coach and student success coach, one of the main ways that I am able to elevate the excellence is making sure that students understand they are worthy of greatness and building rapport and relationships that foster confidence and growth in their lives. In meeting with students, there are no stereotypes, assumptions, or histories held against them, and they have a clean slate towards achieving their dreams. In CCSD, we strive to reach the needs of all of our students and want everyone to achieve their true potential and beyond and from this we have to believe in the students before they can sometimes believe in themselves.
